Take care of your health by staying active at Blue Valley Rec! We offer group fitness classes in Overland Park to give you a fun, encouraging environment to get moving, no matter your age or current level of health. All fitness class offerings are included with our daily, monthly, and annual membership options.

Strength & Cardio Classes

Stay active and build your body’s strength and endurance through a combination of strength training exercises and cardio at various lengths and intensities. Choose from several Les Mills workouts, HIIT, or various boot camps.

Les Mills BODYPUMP

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

For anyone looking to get lean, toned, and fit fast. Use light-to-moderate weights with lots of repetition for a total body workout and burn up to 540 calories. You are coached through scientifically-proven techniques and moves – pumping out encouragement, great music, and motivation to help you achieve more than on your own!

Les Mills BODYCOMBAT

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

Punch and kick your way to fitness, burning up to 740 calories along the way. This high-energy, martial arts inspired workout is totally non-contact with no complex moves to master. A certified instructor challenges you to up the intensity and motivates you to make the most of every round.

Cardio & Weights

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

A combination of fun and fitness increases cardio and muscular endurance. Class includes a cardio workout and a strength workout to help maximize your time while burning calories and increasing strength. There is no set format, every class is different. Modifications are offered, so you can match to your fitness level.

Strength Boot Camp

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

This 45-minute class is a combination of strength, cardio, muscle endurance, flexibility, and functional movement patterns. Designed for maximum calorie burn in the shortest amount of time. Get fit, healthy, and challenge your mind and your body all at once. This class may be held outdoors.

Strength & Stability

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

Focuses primarily on full body strength and stability. Work individual muscle groups to gain strength and increase stability and muscle endurance. Great class for all abilities. More focused on resistance training than cardio. No jumping, so it has low impact on joints.

Strictly Strength

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

Designed to build muscle and decrease body fat by working your full body through a progression of strength exercises. It’s strictly about strength, using a variety of equipment with little to no cardio during this class.

HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training)

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

This interval-based class combines full-body strength training with high intensity cardio bursts designed to tone your body, improve your endurance, and clear your mind before the busy days get started.

Fit

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

Feel better, improve health, and get fit with low-intensity cardio, resistance training, and basic yoga. Easy exercises improve balance and enhance bone density while also lowering fatigue, stress, and blood pressure. This class helps with everyday activities while strengthening muscles and increasing cardiovascular health.

Yoga Classes

By holding and advancing through a series of postures, you’ll strengthen your body, improve your range of motion, relieve stress, and decrease tension. We offer several practices of Yoga to meet you at your comfort level.

Gentle Yoga

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

Appropriate for all levels and ages. We’ll guide you through a slow and steady paced series of floor and seated postures, with perhaps a few standing poses. The focus of this class is to strengthen and stretch your body, improve your range of motion, relieve stress, and decrease tension. No yoga experience required.

Yoga Basics

  • Ages 16 and up

Suitable for first-time students as well as those with experience. The focus of this class is building a strong yoga foundation. Body awareness, basic yoga postures, alignment, repetition, and modifications using props are all part of yoga basics.

Yoga Flow

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

A slower paced vinyasa practice. The poses are held for a longer period without feeling rushed into the next posture or breath to cultivate a reflective pause and time to go inward. The focus in this class is on strength, flexibility, and balance in mind and body.

Yin Yoga

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

A very slow pace and meditative practice of yoga. Poses are held for a longer period allowing time and gravity to fully relax the muscles, get into a deeper stretch, and target the connective tissues.

Yoga Sculpt

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

A total body workout set to energizing music designed to tone and sculpt. Use it to complement your regular yoga practice while boosting your metabolism and
pushing your strength and flexibility to new heights. Free weights are added as an interval set to create resistance and intensity. Strength-training exercises are used to build lean muscle.

Barre

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

Full Body Barre

A low impact, full-body conditioning class fusing pilates, yoga, aerobics, and elements of strengthening exercise with free weights and resistance all in one class. The workout will incorporate upper-body, lower-body, and core exercises that target specific muscle groups, helping to improve flexibility, balance, stability, and strength. If you’re looking to tone up, this is the perfect class for you!

Barre Above® + Core

A totally unique approach to barre workouts as you’ve seen them. Fusing the best of Pilates, yoga, aerobics, and elements of the strengthening exercises dancers do, this class delivers a results-driven workout that is not only fun and dynamic, but it will sculpt your body and get you into amazing shape. We’ll focus heavily on core strengthening exercises.

Pilates

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

Mat Pilates & More

A method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility, muscular strength, and endurance moves. The goal is to strengthen the body’s “powerhouse” which includes abdominal muscles, lower back muscles, pelvic floor, hips, and glutes. Strengthening of these muscles will happen using body weight, resistance bands, and at times added weight. This workout will help build and sculpt these muscles, giving your body a lean look. Mat Pilates can help with improving flexibility, posture, and muscle strength.

Gentle Pilates

A form of exercise that uses dynamic stretching gently and effectively to lengthen muscles. These exercises target specific body areas to strengthen and stretch muscles, which can help reduce tension, improve flexibility, and ease tightness.

Chair Yoga

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

A safe way to practice yoga without having to get up or down from the floor. Students perform postures and breathing exercises with the aid of a chair. Students can experience the many benefits of yoga such as increased balance, strength, flexibility, range of motion, and stress reduction. Chair Yoga is recommended for those with arthritis, osteoporosis, cancer recovery, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis, post-op rehabilitation, and others with limited mobility.

Cycle Classes

Our cycle classes offer a variety of benefits for physical and mental health. From rhythm-based rides to performance-driven training, step into the studio for a fast-paced cycle class.

 

Power Cycle

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

Get your pedals spinning to music as your instructor takes you on a journey of hill climbs, sprints, and flat riding. Control your own resistance levels and speed to build up your fitness level over time.

Cycle Bootcamp

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

This total body conditioning offers you a balanced workout targeting your cardiovascular endurance and cycling stamina. Enjoy 10-minute increments of joint-friendly cardio on the bike followed by 10 minutes of body weight and resistance band strength-building exercises off the bike. It’s ideal for anyone looking for a fun way to challenge their hearts, minds, and muscles. (Bike shoes not recommended for this specific class.)

Dance Fitness Classes

We incorporate several body movements to engage different muscle groups, leading to increased muscle strength, endurance, and toning while working out to upbeat tunes.

 

WERQ

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

Pronounced “work,” this fiercely fun dance fitness class is based on current pop, rock, and hip-hop music. The warm-up previews dance steps used in class and the cool-down includes balance and yoga poses. It’s easy to follow and no dance experience is required.

Dance Fusion + Strength

  • Ages 16 and up (12-15 accompanied by adult)

This class blends cardio dance and functional strength exercises all in one class. Enjoy a variety of dance styles including hip-hop, jazz, Latin, ballroom and more! Strength and stretch segments may include body weight exercises, bands, free weights, and a mat. All fitness levels welcome, no dance experience necessary.

Zumba

  • Ages 16 and up

Enjoy Latin steps and aerobic fitness moves set to international rhythms. Naturally tones the body and provides an aerobic benefit. Bring a towel and a water bottle.
